In the 1960’s and 70’s, leading European artists such as Martin Sharp, Ivan Ripley, David Vaughan, and Alan Aldridge paved the way for a new era of art. These artists created psychedelic posters inspired by the Pop Art movements of their time, and by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh. Rich saturated colors, elaborate lettering, and strong graphic icons distinguish their artwork. These artists were immediately recognized and were influential to album and magazine art covers and the artists also created covers themselves.

These artists also created posters, which were handed out at concerts or sold at local stores for just a few dollars to the masses. The posters were printed either by silkscreen or lithograph machines because of the low cost. The lithograph method has a higher production speed, so it did cost a little more, but allowed for higher quantities to be printed.

The idea was to spread good art for people to enjoy at a low cost. The nature of the artwork was sharing the psychedelic experiences the artists’ themselves were influenced by during their process of creation. The posters were designed to appeal to the younger generation characterized by sex, drugs, rock and roll.

Little did the artists know that one day, their art would become collectables. Most, if not all of these posters from this time were never signed because the artists did not realize how valuable they would become. 

All posters we are representing here were originally printed in the 60’s. These are NOT reproductions. You will find many of them on heavier than normal stock and most are in perfect condition with no dents or creases and are in original form. Some are still in the original rolls and packaged while other are flat.
